CISA Preparation Assistance -- Proposed Course Outline

In order to gauge interest, we present the following outline for a possible new course designed to help candidates prepare for the 2005 CISA Exam.

While nothing has been finalized, at this point, the one-day course would:

  • be offered at a location in downtown Toronto.
  • run sometime in May, probably on a weekend (but so as not to conflict with the Toronto ISACA chapter's CISA preparation course).
  • cost about Cdn$150 per person plus GST.

We are also considering offering the course at a limited number of other locations in Canada and the U.S. if there is sufficient interest.

Please review the following, and if you are interested, please indicate here.  (Your expression of interest does not obligate you to attend in any way.)

Snappy Answers to CISA Questions
Assistance in CISA Exam Preparation

Presented by: Craig R. McGuffin, CA, CISA, CISM

Who Should Attend:

Information Systems Audit professionals who are preparing to take this year’s Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam, offered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

Program Concentration:

When preparing for the CISA, an excellent study technique is attempting the questions and reviewing the answers provided in the “CISA Review Questions, Answers & Explanations Manual” published annually by ISACA.  The Manual (also available on CD-ROM), has hundreds of practice questions, answers and explanations that help candidates test and increase their preparedness for the exam.

While the Manual provides valuable experience for writing the CISA, it can also be frustrating.  If you can’t understand the answer or the explanation provided, its value as a study aid plummets.  Many candidates need a resource they can turn to in order to help clarify and amplify on the questions they find problematic.

This course is designed to help you deal with problem CISA practice questions – ones where the answer provided just doesn’t make sense to you.  We’ll do this by having each participant select any question they desire from the 700 provided in ISACA’s “CISA Review Questions, Answers & Explanations CD-ROM 2005”.  For each question selected, the class will receive a thorough explanation of the answer and its underlying concepts, as well as pointers to additional reference material.  You’ll have the opportunity to fully explore the area to ensure that you’re comfortable with both the concepts and details raised by the question.

We’ll rotate through all participants in the class so that everyone has a chance to have their concerns covered.  Once we’ve gone through the entire class, we’ll do it again, and keep doing it until class completion (or exhaustion).  By the end of the day, you and your classmates will have had many opportunities to address those CISA practice questions that have been giving you the most difficulty.
